Alias Email

Email alias service to protect your main address, separate usages and create aliases on several domains, including your own.

Overview

Alias Email lets you create separate forwarding addresses for registrations, newsletters, purchases or service tests. Your main address stays less exposed, and each alias can be disabled or deleted later if a website becomes too noisy, leaks your data or no longer needs to contact you.

The service is based on addy.io, formerly AnonAddy, free software dedicated to email aliases and message forwarding. Hostux provides several alias domain names and also allows you to add your own domain if you want stronger customization and separation between your usages.

Why use email aliases

  • Avoid giving your real email address to every web service.
  • Separate usages: purchases, forums, newsletters, tests and secondary services.
  • Disable or delete an alias that starts receiving spam.
  • Identify more easily which registration caused a leak or abuse.
  • Keep your main address for truly important exchanges.

This is a useful digital hygiene service. It does not replace a broader security strategy, but it greatly improves how your email address is exposed day to day.

Main features

  • Create a different alias per website, use or category.
  • Choose between several domain names provided for aliases.
  • Add your own domain for more personalized aliases.
  • Forward messages to one or several verified real addresses.
  • Disable, delete or forget an alias depending on the level of separation you need.
  • Reply or send from an alias without revealing your main address.
  • Use OpenPGP encryption for forwarded emails if you configure it.

How the service works

  • You create an account and associate one or several real destination addresses.
  • Each alias redirects messages to your configured recipient or recipients.
  • You can choose between several domain names provided by the service.
  • You can also add your own domain for more personalized aliases.
  • When an alias becomes useless, compromised or too exposed, you can disable or delete it without changing your real address.

Recommended uses

  • Use a different alias for each site or category of service.
  • Keep your main address for personal, administrative or trusted exchanges.
  • Create dedicated aliases for newsletters, online purchases, forums and temporary trials.
  • Do not treat an alias as magic protection: it reduces exposure, but it does not make you invisible.

Use cases

  • Create an alias for an online shop, marketplace or trial service.
  • Isolate newsletters, forums and secondary services with dedicated addresses.
  • Quickly identify which registration caused spam.
  • Cut off a compromised alias without changing your main address everywhere.
  • Organize email usage between everyday life, monitoring, purchases and sensitive accounts.

Access and tools

The addy.io ecosystem includes a web interface, an open-source browser extension to generate aliases more easily, and mobile applications depending on the platforms supported by the project.

For an account or access request, the Contact page remains the right entry point.
